Climate change is one of the main challenges for today’s society and the field of education is no stranger to it. We face the challenge of being able to transmit its complexity and to encourage responses among students based on scientific knowledge. In this sense, this micro-credential offers secondary education teachers an integrated vision of the environmental risks associated with climate change and the fundamental role played by ecosystems in the regulation of these impacts.

Throughout the course, teachers will acquire knowledge on the fundamentals of climate change and on the methodologies used to assess climate risks in different contexts. The concept of Ecosystem Service will be explored in depth, analyzing how ecosystems contribute to buffering phenomena such as floods, droughts, heat waves or soil loss, and reviewing various approaches for its quantification, especially those related to climate regulation.

The program devotes special attention to Nature-based Solutions (NBS) as effective adaptation and mitigation measures. These solutions are presented as key strategies to address the impacts of climate change, while generating multiple environmental, educational and social co-benefits that can be actively integrated into teaching practice.

The micro-credential also includes a practical workshop aimed at providing teachers with resources, activities and didactic approaches applicable in the classroom, favoring the incorporation of sustainability, critical thinking and climate action in the curriculum.

This program is designed for teachers who wish to update their training, understand the essential role of ecosystems in the face of climate change, and incorporate a science-based perspective on adaptation and mitigation into the classroom.
